The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering gave the Romanian and World aviation an prestigious gallery of professionals in its course of almost 90 years of operation. This gallery opens with Alexandru ”Dudu” Frim, graduate of 1930 (photo up, in the plane). He functioned as engineer test pilot at IAR Brașov. Although he was no military pilot, he holds an air victory against a B-17 bomber in the ”Tidal Wave” operation. He was gifted for sports, winning the World Bobsleigh Championship two team in 1934 at Engelberg, Switzerland, with team mate Vasile Dumitrescu. On 19 July 1939 he won the Aeroclub Braşov Cup, making it to the top in the Aviation Grand Prix as aerobatic pilot.
We hope that the faculty will keep up with the glorious tradition which began with Alexandru Frim, continuing to train young people of today at the level of exigence of the aeronautics and astronautics of the future.
